Field of Wheels Car and Craft Festival

Yesterday was the Field of Wheels show at the Belmont Distillery. There were around 120-130 entries including a handful of antique tractors and motorcycles. We got there about 10:15 and were entry number 076. This place was out in the middle of nowhere!

It was a gorgeous day although it did get hot. My wife and I realized that we need to invest in a canopy. Luckily there was a large tent for people to sit under where the temperature was significantly cooler than being out in the sun. I have to give a big kudos to the Culpeper County Sheriff's Department and the Rapidan Volunteer Fire Department. The Sheriff's Department had set up a mobile command unit and there was an ambulance and EMTs on hand in the case of an emergency. This was comforting due to how hot it was and the fact that we were so far away from civilization.

All-in-all the show was nice. There could have been more craft venders there and the awards presentation was a little disorganized, but it was a nice drive and an overall pleasant day.

Big Secz came away empty handed again yesterday but I still got a lot of compliments on her. I was even interviewed by Virginia Living Television (VLTV), channels 16 and 17 in Culpeper and Orange counties. The cameraman and reporter really like Big Secz. Unfortunately I don't get VLTV in Stafford so unless they post the interview on the net I'll never get to see it.

The next show is May 17th at my daughter's elementary school. I think this might be my best chance of coming away with hardware since two of the award categories are Student's Choice (my daughter is telling all her friends and classmates to vote for my car), and Parent With the Nicest Car. Even if I come away the entire season empty handed at least I'll have gotten a good tan out of it.

April 4th SkillsUSA Car Show

Well today was my first car show, the 3rd Annual SkillsUSA car show.  This morning started off on the wrong foot when Big Secz decided she didn't want to start. After ripping off a few choice words I pushed the gear shift up as far as it would go and she started right up, appears to be a loose connection somewhere.

Finally got to the show just before 10 am, it was cold. If the wind hadn't been blowing it wouldn't have been so bad. By 1 pm the wind had died down and it warmed up. I even managed to get a little sunburn.

There were a lot of cars there, 173 participants, a big mix of mostly Fords and Chevys. The oldest car was a 1915 Model T and the years went up to as much as cars that were just a few years old. There was a ton of late model Mustangs. The awards they gave out were Top Thirty, Best Import, Best In Show, Judge's Choice, People's Choice, Student's Choice, Best Engineered, Best Rod, Best Paint, Best Custom, and a few others I can't think of right now. As expected I came home empty handed. But that's fine; there were some other Mustangs there that were just amazingly restored. Regardless it was a lot of fun and I look forward to the next one.

Next weekend, April 11 th , is a 92 mile poker run starting in Manassas, VA and ending in Stafford, VA. That should be a lot of fun. Now lets just hope the weather holds up.
